Succulent Project

Better-Together is a motto we try to live by. Each year our Spring Gala is a success in-part because of the outpouring of support we receive from our donors and community businesses. This summer Astonished! Core Members and staff have been delivering succulents to our Table Sponsors and Financial Sponsors as one way to say thank-you and express we are better-together. We ‘up-cycled’ donated coffee mugs and planted beautiful succulents. Thank-you to Fat Plant Farm for providing us with these succulents at a reduced cost. It was inspiring to meet so many supporters and say THANK YOU in person. We still have a few more deliveries to do over the summer and early fall. Check out the photos from our visits…..

Changes on A! Leadership Team

Thank you to Kelsey Culbert for her dedicated work on the A! Leadership Team . We wish her well in her expanding theatre adventures and are happy we will continue to see her at the Astonished! Teaching and Learning Centre. Thank you to Courtney Bailey for her steadfast work on the A! Leadership Team. Courtney has been a team member since the beginning. We wish her joy as she balances life with her family, which includes three young children, a business, and her volunteer life. We are delighted to welcome Pagan Racette and Alix Norum to the Leadership team. We look forward to their contributions to future A! Social Club events. Be sure to check out upcoming A! Prairie Gold 2

In the late winter (2017-2018), Prairie Gold 2, textile art by Martha Cole, original photograph by Cherie Westmoreland, was on show at Assiniboia Gallery, 2266 Smith Street, Regina. Prairie Gold 2 was one of the first three digitally based works that were sent to Japan as part of an invitational exhibition of textile/quilted works from Canada, this was part of a very large international quilt show.

Martha Cole is a great supporter of Astonished! and has donated a significant percentage of the sale of this work to Astonished! Thank you to Martha for her generosity, to Assiniboia Gallery for supporting this unique donor process, and to the anonymous buyer who made the process a success and now lives with this beautiful creation.

Distinguished Fieldwork Award

On April 13, 2018 Astonished! was honoured to receive the Distinguished Fieldwork Award from the University of Regina Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies (KIN) at their Annual Distinguished Alumni and Awards Night. The Fieldwork Award recognizes the contributions an organization has made to the professional development of Kinesiology and Health Studies students through the fieldwork experience, which is considered to be the cornerstone of their undergraduate degree.

The Annual Distinguished Alumni and Awards Night recognizes the important contributions made by many alumni. The event also celebrates the contributions community-based partner organizations make to student development, and allows KIN students to reconnect with one another.

Thank you to our Executive Director Bonnie Cummings-Vickaryous, our Program Coordinator Katherine Taylor, and our KIN practicum students; Elisa Wong, Jessica Opdahl, and Kevin Mah; and our KIN mini-placement students Rhea Boysen, Ben Rumpel, Kennedy Gauley, and Parker Florell.

Light Painting

What are some of your dreams, the things you want to make manifest in your life? For A! Student Researcher Kennen Dorgan, photographing light in the dark is a dream. As part of her spring semester PATH (planning alternative tomorrows with hope) she enlisted her sister Tanys, of Tanys Rae Photography , and her dad Dean Dorgan, to help her manifest her dream. Kennen invited some A! Student Researchers and others to join her on April 10, 2018. They were her models and assistants. It was crazy fun.
