SUMMARY:Astonished! Summer Literacy Program (2026)  Expression of Interest
DESCRIPTION:Background Information \nAstonished! Inc is a registered non-profit charity based in Regina\, Saskatchewan. We work in an inclusive community to address barriers facing young adults with complex physical disAbilities (Core Members) by creating opportunities for teaching and learning; social\, recreational and cultural engagement; and for employment and housing. One of our four program areas is the Astonished! Summer Literacy Program. \n  \nProgram Overview \nA summer program designed to explore and respond to the literacy strengths\, dreams\, and needs of Astonished! Core Members. Program content is shaped by the strengths\, dreams\, and needs of each participant. To begin\, Astonished! staff work with each participant\, and those close to them\, to identify their ‘Literacy Strengths\, Dreams\, and Needs’. Example dreams might include: developing literacy skills (reading\, numeracy\, technology\, etc.)\, increasing literacy skills\, or simply having more time to read and/or use various forms of technology. Based on the strengths\, dreams\, and needs expressed\, program participants will be offered individualized opportunities and/or group opportunities. \nSome of the noteworthy successes of previous summers include: working with the ALL Curriculum (Accessible Literacy Learning) to develop and refine pre-literacy skills; participating in a book club; enhancing financial/numerical literacy skills; engaging in creative writing exercises; learning about health literacy (nutrition) and exploring a variety of technological literacy such as websites\, social media and various ‘apps’. Optional evening sessions included cultural literacy lessons\, visiting local establishments\, and game nights. \nThe program will be comprised of 16 sessions with each session running from 1:00-4:00 at the University of Regina. SUMMARY:A! Garden Night!
DESCRIPTION:Have you been wanting to check out the A! Garden\, but maybe afternoons don’t work for you!?!? Well we have for the May Social Club Event an evening out at the South Zone Community Garden – Check out the newly planted A! Garden beds + we might be planting more depending on how much got planted the day before! We will plant some planters (**if you have any extra plastic planter pots from last season please bring some along!**) We will have some eats and drinks to enjoy under the Pergola! Please note that this is an *outdoor event* Please dress accordingly (hat\, sunglasses\, sunscreen\, etc.) to what the weather conditions will be. We will also watch closely the weather for that evening – We are hoping for a wonderful evening with no rain\, wind\, and cold!!! \n\n***Please note that for this event we have a maximum of 8 Core Members who can attend** \n\nWhen you RSVP please provide the following information: \n\nEmergency contact phone number for the evening of Friday\, May 29th\nPhone numbers of staff who are on this evening (we understand that sometimes there are staffing changes so if there is a change for another contact person for that evening please provide us with the phone number as soon as you can!)\nPlease provide transportation details by May 27th\n\nThe Details: \nWhat: Astonished!
